UN Chief To Visit Ecuador And Peru Next Week

New York, Feb 9 2011 3:10PM Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will at the weekend travel to Ecuador and Peru for official visits during which he will confer with the leaders of the two countries, the United Nations announced today.

In Quito, the Ecuadorian capital, Mr. Ban will meet with President Rafael Correa and other senior Government officials.

He will then proceed to Peru, where he will confer with President Alan García and other senior officials.

While in Peru, Mr. Ban is also expected to call on Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, a Peruvian diplomat who served as UN Secretary-General between 1982 and 1991.

The trip will be the Secretary-General’s first official visit to the two Latin American nations.
