Breaking: Somali Man Detained Aboard U.S. Navy Ship for Months, Not Read Miranda Rights 06 Jul 2011 A Somali man accused of ties to two Islamist militant groups was captured by the U.S. military in April and interrogated for months aboard a navy ship without being warned of his Miranda rights to remain silent and have a lawyer. Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame was captured on April 19, and a plane carrying him arrived in New York City around midnight Monday night, officials said. On Tuesday, the Obama regime announced that the man had been flown to New York City to face prosecution before a civilian court. In an indictment unsealed in the Southern District of New York, Mr. Warsame was charged with nine counts related to accusations that he provided support to [alleged terror groups]. (New York Times)

Afghan army fires mortar shells into Pakistan --'Angoor Adda has been hit regularly by the NATO and Afghan forces.' 04 Jul 2011 Afghan forces fired 10 mortar shells on Sunday that landed 800 metres inside Pakistan's South Waziristan Agency, security sources said. "Afghan National Army fired 10 mortar shells on civilians in Angoor Adda area (last Pakistani town on border with Afghanistan) between 1030 hours to 1300 hours at Saturday night," sources spoke on the condition of anonymity. They said Pakistan lodged "protest" with the Afghan government through military and other channels.

US drone attack kills six in Pakistan 05 Jul 2011 At least six people have been killed in a non-UN-sanctioned US drone attack in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region of North Waziristan. According to the local TV channel Express, the attack took place late Tuesday when four missiles hit a house in Mir Ali, about 25 kilometres (16 miles) east of Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan tribal district, Xinhua reported.

The countries are all in the U.S. Central Command's area of responsibility and include Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Yemen. The multiple award task order contract has an overall value of $3.8 billion, with a period of performance at two base years, with one-year options available for the following three years.

11 killed in spate of bomb attacks in Iraq 04 Jul 2011 A series of bomb and gunfire attacks on Monday killed at least 11 people and injured 35 others in northern and central Iraq. In the northern province of Nineveh, an Iraqi soldier was killed and another injured when a roadside bomb exploded near their patrol vehicle in the Rabia area in west of the provincial capital city of Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, a provincial police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Israelis kill 2 Palestinians, injure one 05 Jul 2011 Israeli artillery shelling has killed two Palestinians and injured another in the central besieged Gaza Strip, medics say. Palestinian emergency services spokesman Adham Abu Salmiya said two people were killed and one was injured in an "artillery shelling east of the al-Maghazi refugee camp" in Gaza on Tuesday, AFP reported. The Israeli military claims the army has targeted the Palestinians who were trying to "fire rockets" into Israel.

French flotilla boat sets sail for Gaza --Activists sail from Corsica as others pledge to continue efforts to reach Palestinian territory with humanitarian aid. 05 Jul 2011 A French boat has set sail for Gaza from Corsica in the latest attempt by activists to deliver aid to the Palestinian territory, according to a journalist aboard the vessel. The Dignite al Karama, which left the western Mediterranean island overnight is, thus far, the only boat in a flotilla organised by pro-Palestinian activists to successfully sail for Gaza, with most confined to ports in Greece.

Greek authorities arrested John Klusmire over the weekend for defying a ban which prevented the ten-strong convoy of ships from setting sail to Gaza. Klusmire - captain of the Audacity of Hope - could have faced up to a year in Greek detention pending trial on charges of endangering the safety of the 36 passengers on board by setting sail without permission.

'30 captains' on intercepted Canadian boat 04 Jul 2011 Thirty pro-Palestinian activists on a Canadian boat bound for Gaza that was stopped out of a Greek port Monday for breaking a ban, defied authorities by claiming they had all captained the ship. Greek coastguards halted the Canadian vessel Tahrir about 10 minutes after it left port on the island of Crete Monday afternoon with some 40 people on board, organisers said. "We have been boarded by about 15 armed special forces," David Heap of the Canadian Boat to Gaza organization said by phone from the vessel.

Strauss-Kahn to sue 2nd accuser 05 Jul 2011 Former International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn plans to sue for slander a 32-year-old French woman who said she will file an attempted rape complaint against him, his lawyers said. French 'journalist' and writer Tristane Banon indicated she would send "a complaint for attempted rape" against him to prosecutors, likely on Tuesday, her lawyer David Koubbi told the news magazine L'Express on its website. But Strauss-Kahn fired back that he had taken note of Banon's claims but dismissed them as "imaginary", his lawyers Henri Leclerc and Frederique Baulieu said on Monday.

Italian police raid notorious hackers group: report 05 Jul 2011 Italian police Tuesday detained 15 suspected members of an international hackers cabal called "Anonymous" blamed for several major online attacks, an Italian newspaper reported. The suspected hackers, including five minors, were picked up by police, questioned and later released, while authorities also seized dozens of computers, the Italian daily La Republica said.

Hacking of Fox News claimed by group with links to Anonymous 04 Jul 2011 A group loosely connected to the hacker collective Anonymous says it took control of the Fox News Politics Twitter account to claim that President Obama had been assassinated while campaigning in Iowa. The Fox News Politics account – @foxnewspolitics – was used to put out a number of fake tweets saying that President Obama had been shot in the head and died, and that vice-president Joe Biden had been installed in his place. The tweets went out at around 2am Pacific time (5am EST, 10am BST). A representative of the group 'Scriptkiddies' said in an interview with Stony Brook University's Think Magazine: "Fox News was selected because we figured their security would be just as much of a joke as their reporting."

Fox News hacker tweets Obama dead --The post -- which Fox kept up for 9 hours -- stated: '@BarackObama has just passed. The President is dead.' 04 Jul 2011 Hackers have taken over a Twitter account belonging to US broadcaster Fox News and declared President Obama dead. The @foxnewspolitics feed stated: "BREAKING NEWS: @BarackObama assassinated, 2 gunshot wounds have proved too much." More than two hours after the malicious postings appeared, they had still not been removed. A group or individual, calling themselves The Script Kiddies appeared to claim responsibility.

Germany says 'Islamic terrorism' still a threat 02 Jul 2011 Germany's top security official said Friday that the terrorist threat to the country hasn't decreased and the number of radicals continues to grow, even with the death of 'Osama bin Laden.' Security officials saw no reason to lower Germany's threat level following the death of the al-Qaeda leader, said Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich, presenting the annual report by Germany's domestic intelligence agency. "The Islamist terrorist threat is widely varied and has not concentrated on a single leader of al-Qaeda for a long time," he said.

45 per cent of Fukushima children had thyroid exposure to radiation --Plant has been leaking radioactive substances since March 11 05 Jul 2011 About 45 per cent of children in Fukushima prefecture experienced thyroid exposure to radiation after the nuclear power there was damaged in March, officials said Tuesday. But the results were not high enough to require further examination, the Nuclear Safety Commission said. In late March, local and central governments carried out the survey on 1,080 children under the age of 15 in areas near the damaged Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station after the crisis.

Britain's richest man to build giant Arctic iron ore mine --Billionaire's 'mega-mine' threatens unique wildlife 04 Jul 2011 Britain's richest man [eco-terrorist Lakshmi Mittal] is planning a giant new opencast mine 300 miles inside the Arctic Circle in a bid to extract a potential $23bn (£14bn) worth of iron ore. The "mega-mine" is believed to be the largest mineral extraction project in the Arctic and highlights the huge commercial potential of the far north as global warming makes industrial development in the region easier. Documents seen by the Guardian show that Mittal's company, the world's biggest steel-making group, ArcelorMittal, admits the operations will be undertaken in an area inhabited by unique wildlife including polar bear, narwhal and walrus.

Jared Loughner: No forced medication, appeals court rules 05 Jul 2011 An appeals court has ordered federal prison officials to temporarily stop forcing anti-psychotic drugs on the suspect in the Tucson shooting rampage. The brief order from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals came late Friday after Jared Lee Loughner's lawyers appealed a ruling allowing him to be medicated. U.S. District Judge Larry Burns ruled last week that he didn't want to second-guess doctors at the federal prison in Springfield, Mo., who determined Loughner was a danger and needed medication.

Jeff Ashton Decides to Retire --Announcement Follows Casey Anthony Verdict 05 Jul 2011 Prosecutor Jeff Ashton has decided to retire, a source inside the state attorney's office said. Casey lawyers decry media coverage --'Casey did not murder Caylee -- it's that simple.' 05 Jul 2011 Defense lawyers for Casey Anthony lambasted the judgmental role adopted by some members of the news media and their guests in the months leading up to Tuesday's verdict. "I hope that this is a lesson to those of you who (have) indulged in media assassination for three years," said defense attorney J. Cheney Mason after the verdict in the Casey Anthony case, which has attracted intense media scrutiny. "Bias and prejudice and incompetent 'talking heads' [*especially* the farcical Faux News] saying what would be and how to be -- I'm disgusted by some of the lawyers that have done this. Casey Anthony acquitted of murder 05 Jul 2011 A Florida jury has found Casey Anthony not guilty of murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. The jury of 7 women and 5 men in Orlando did find the 25-year-old Anthony guilty of giving false information to a law enforcement in connection with the case. The jurors returned the verdict after more than 10 hours of deliberation.
