Craftsman Beau Pridue farewelled in East Timor

Troops of the Australian-led International Stabilisation Force in East Timor have farewelled their mate, Craftsman Beau Pridue, who was killed in a tragic motor vehicle accident in regional East Timor last week.

Craftsman Pridue was farewelled at a Memorial Service held in Dili yesterday evening (20 September) and at a formal Ramp Ceremony held at the Dili International Airport early this morning.

Commander of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) Colonel Luke Foster said Craftsman Pridue will be sadly missed by his mates and the entire ISF.

“Craftsman Pridue was an excellent solider, a great contributor and a real team player,” Colonel Foster said.

“He cared greatly about his extended Defence family and his mates and was willing to lend a hand whenever it was needed.

“To Beau’s family and loved ones in Australia, we feel their grief and pray that they may, in time, be able to continue their lives with less sadness each day.”

Colonel Foster said that to all who knew and respected Craftsman Pridue, the great memories of him will hopefully help ease the sadness and loss.

“We honour his service in the Australian Defence Force and we honour his service in Timor-Leste.”

Colonel Foster said he had talked with Craftsman Pridue’s closest mates on deployment in East Timor and, while they were understandably distraught, the conversation focused on the qualities of an exceptional man who was on his first deployment.

Before Craftsman Pridue was placed on a RAAF Hercules aircraft for repatriation to Australia, he was honoured with a Haka performed by members of the New Zealand Defence Force element of the ISF.

The ceremony was performed in the true traditions of the ANZAC spirit and was undertaken as a special honour to a young solider who died while serving his country.

An Australian Ramp Ceremony will be conducted at RAAF Williamtown NSW late today, Wednesday 21 September.
