Iran military downs US spy drone 04 Dec 2011 A senior Iranian military official says Iran's Army has downed a remote-controlled reconnaissance drone operated by the US military in the eastern part of the country. The informed source said on Sunday that the Iranian Army's electronic warfare unit successfully targeted the US-built RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft after it crossed into Iranian airspace over the border with neighboring Afghanistan.

"Iran's military has downed an intruding RQ-170 American drone in eastern Iran," Iran's Arabic-language Al Alam state television network quoted the unnamed source as saying. "The spy drone, which has been downed with little damage, was seized by the Iranian armed forces."

U.S. Tightens Its Security in Baghdad 05 Dec 2011 The American Embassy in Baghdad has placed sharp new restrictions on how government workers can travel inside the walled-off International Zone, citing serious threats of kidnapping and terrorist attacks across Iraq and near the embassy's own doorstep. In a statement posted to its Web site on Saturday, the embassy said it had "severely restricted" movement through the International Zone, also known as the Green Zone, and had increased security. Portland police arrested 19 people who were trying to occupy a downtown park, including one man charged with criminal mischief and trespassing for climbing onto the roof of City Hall, police said. Some 300 people had attempted to gather in Shemanski Park, beginning late on Saturday night, and then marched through the city's streets, police said.

Man dead at Occupy camp on North Texas campus 04 Dec 2011 An official at the University of North Texas says a man has been found dead at a campsite on the school's campus where Occupy Denton protesters have been gathering. The Dallas Morning News reports that university spokesman Buddy Price says officers from the school's police department found the man's body Saturday after someone called authorities. He told the newspaper the man is believed to have been a member of the Occupy Denton encampment.

More Radioactive Water Leaks at Fukushima Plant, Tepco Says --Water may have contained one million times as much radioactive strontium as government limit 05 Dec 2011 As much as 45,000 liters (11,870 gallons) of highly radioactive water leaked from Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear station at the weekend and some may have reached the sea, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said. Tepco said the leaked water contained 16,000 becquerels and 29,000 becquerels per liter of radioactive cesium 134 and 137 respectively. Those levels exceed government safety limits by 267 and 322 times, according to Bloomberg calculations. The water may have contained one million times as much radioactive strontium as the government limit, the Asahi newspaper reported today.

Joe Sealer, spokesman for the FBI office in Kansas City, says Delta Air Lines Inc. received the communication Friday night while the plane was bound for Kansas City from the New York area.
