Deputy Secretary Burns' Travel to Brazil March 1 - 2, 2012

Deputy Secretary of State William Burns will visit Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia March 1-2, 2012. His visit will reinforce the strong partnership between the United States and Brazil in the lead-up to Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff’s visit to the United States in April. The Deputy Secretary will meet with Brazilian Government officials and representatives of the private sector to advance efforts between the United States and Brazil to promote prosperity through education, increasing trade and investment, and supporting social inclusion.

In Rio de Janeiro, the Deputy Secretary will give a speech on the scope and depth of the relationship between the United States and Brazil. He will address ways to strengthen bonds and cooperation, in order to promote global stability, prosperity, and human dignity. He will also meet with the Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the President of the Brazilian Development Bank, and the CEO of Petrobras. In Brasilia, Deputy Secretary Burns will meet with a range of federal government officials, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Commerce, and Education.
