Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation Thomas M. Countryman will travel to Vienna to join the U.S. delegation and participate in the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) meeting of Parties to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) from May 3 to May 5. At the PrepCom meeting, Assistant Secretary Countryman will advance the U.S. agenda of bolstering the NPT – a central pillar of international security – and realizing President Obama’s vision of a world free of nuclear weapons.
The Assistant Secretary will then travel to Ljubljana, Slovenia on May 6 to participate on May 7 in the 13th Annual International Export Control Conference, co-sponsored by the U.S. and the EU, and hosted by the Government of Slovenia. He will deliver opening remarks and conduct bilateral meetings with Slovenian counterparts.
Assistant Secretary Countryman will return to Vienna from May 7 to May 8 to rejoin the U.S. delegation to the NPT PrepCom.
