Taiwan to send 50 delegates to U.N. climate conference in Paris
Taiwan will send a delegation of at least 50 people to the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference scheduled for Nov. 30-Dec. 11 in Paris, an official said in Taipei.
Although Taiwan is not a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), it will continue to vie for the right to take part in the conference as an observer, according to Wei Kuo-yen, minister of the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA).
The Taiwanese delegation will be comprised of government officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations and think tanks, Wei said.
Taiwan's intended national determined contributions (INDC) goal is to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030, which is 80 percent of Taiwan's total emissions in 2005, he said.
As of Nov. 10, 128 UNFCCC member states and European Union countries had submitted 129 INDCs, Wei said.
