More Syndicates Commit To Bases
Statement made by Peter Kiely, Chairman, America’s Cup Village Limited
Two more syndicates have committed
themselves to bases at the Cup Village. They are Ernesto
Berterelli’s Swiss syndicate and Team New
Zealand.
Berterelli’s syndicate, headed by Russell Coutts and Brad Butterworth, has taken two adjoining bases, leaving only one base owned by America’s Cup Village Ltd now available for lease. This is base No 3 and we anticipate that negotiations in relation to this base will be completed shortly.
With five America’s Cup syndicates now committed to bases at the Cup Village we can expect the area to be the focus of summertime activities for Aucklanders and visitors to the city.
We are thrilled with the response. The syndicates have wasted no time in securing their position at the Cup Village, and each team will bring with them an entourage of superyachts and supporters.
As well as being a focal point for public attention, this activity will generate excellent revenue for ACVL.
The importance of the Cup Village to competitors can be judged by the decision of the Swiss syndicate to lease two bases. Russell and Brad love the atmosphere, the convenience and access to facilities - and were determined to act swiftly so they would not be met by a “full house” sign.
Other syndicates which have committed themselves to bases at the Village are Patrizio Bertelli’s Prada, Larry Ellison’s Oracle Racing and Craig McCaw’s Project 2000.
