Picket to 'unwelcome' David Hawkins to Watercare!
From Penny Bright,
Hi people!
Just to let you know that Papakura's ex-mayor, David Hawkins will be starting his new job as a senior member of management for Watercare Services on Monday 9 October!
This man played a leading role in helping the giant water corporations get a foothold in the Auckland region, when United Water (a conglomerate of Thames Water and General Des Eaux) got a 30 year contract to privatise water services management for Papakura District Council in 1997.
NB! Privatised water services management IS privatisation - despite the weasel words of some politicians who claim that it isn't, because the Council still owns the pipes. Privatised water services management is the European model for water privatisation.
So! What's going on? Why has the commercialised water services wholesaler (Watercare Services) employed a known privatiser in a key management role????
We know that under the Auckland Regional Water Review, Watercare Services would like to see an end to the wholesale / retail split, and have one commercialised body to cover the entire Auckland region. What would happen to United Water, under that scenario? Just what do Watercare think that they are doing?
Well, the Water Pressure Group don't think that Mr David Hawkins should be allowed anywhere near ANY water services!!
We intend to let him know that he is not wanted in his new job, and alert the public! The Auckland City Council is the biggest shareholder in Watercare Services, and has a policy of being opposed to privatisation. Did they know of David Hawkins employment? If they did - why didn't they stop it? If they didn't know - shouldn't they have??? Auckland City Council must show its opposition to privatisation by making sure that David Hawkins is removed from this new position!
PICKET!!
WHEN: Monday 9 October
TIME:
11.00am to 1.00pm
WHERE: Outside the ASB Bank
Centre
(Watercare Services Head Office is on Level
18)
Corner of Albert and Wellesley Streets
If we
don't fight back - will lose control of our water! This is
serious - this is sinister! This is another reason why the
commercialised model (LATEs), have to go. They don't listen
to the people. They are not to be trusted.
If you can make it - please come along! Stand up and be counted against privatised water!!
Cheers
Penny Bright
