Manukau
City Council Management Team Wins National
Competition
A team from Manukau City Council has won
the 2001 Local Government Management Association Management
Challenge, a national competition featuring teams from local
government organisations.
The six-person team from Manukau had to work on ten challenging tasks with little preparation during the one-day competition.
The team consisted of Nick Williamson, Chris Szekely, Sarah Boswell, Duncan Enoka, Lindsay Britton and Andrew Maddock.
Having succeeded in the New Zealand leg of the challenge, they will next take on teams from Australia in the second and final part of the Australasian Management Challenge competition in Brisbane next month.
All travel costs will be met by Local Government Managers Australia.
City Manager Colin Dale said the team had done extremely well in a high pressure environment. “They had to brainstorm on a wide array of subjects and give professional presentations within very tight deadlines. They showed they were a great team of people that worked well together to achieve a common goal.
“Their success reflects on the high calibre of professional staff we have at the Council, and on the diverse range of skills. Their effective teamwork was noted by the judges, and was seen as a strength that contributed to their success. It’s the attitude we promote among our staff because it produces better service to the public,” he said.
