Green Lane West Upgrade Underway Soon

Whether you are travelling by car, by bike or on foot, it will soon be easier to get into Cornwall Park when Auckland City’s scheduled upgrade of Green Lane West is completed in about 15 weeks.

Motorists driving past will benefit too, because they won’t be held up by vehicles turning right into the park.

Work will begin next week from Greenlane Hospital (Gate 3) to the eastern edge of Cornwall Park. The road will be widened to make room for another lane for turning vehicles and to enable traffic lights to be installed at the park entrance. The upgrade will also include cycle lanes in each direction.

A section of the southern footpath will have to be removed to make room for the improvements. However, pedestrians will still be catered for - by a footpath opposite the park and crossing facilities at the entrance.

The project is the second stage of a major upgrading of Green Lane West. The first stage, which also involved widening, was from the intersection with Manukau Road to the Greenlane Hospital gates. The third stage will continue improvements from the edge of Cornwall Park to the Greenlane motorway interchange.

During construction, the southern footpath between the eastern edge of Cornwall Park and Greenlane Hospital will be closed. There will be signs indicating alternative routes.

For further information, pick up a brochure from the Central City Library, Remuera and Epsom community libraries or call Auckland City on 379 2020.
