COMMITTEE CHAIRS APPOINTED

Mayor John Terris announced Hutt City Council's appointments for committee structures today after Committee chairs and membership and terms of reference were agreed at the Council's first ordinary meeting last night (6 November).

The number and names of committees are the same as those of the last triennium. The full membership list is attached.

Although the CityVision - Terris Team has a majority on the Council, it has assigned three of the leadership positions to independents including the Deputy Mayoralty, to which Councillor Ray Wallace was appointed by unanimous vote. Mayor Terris said "This signals a desire on the part of the Council to work together on the important objectives of economic development and an improved system of community representation.

"The Council intends to review the committee structure in 12 months, after the Local Government Amendment Act should have been passed, and there may be a need to make some changes in light of new provisions contained in the Act," Mayor Terris said.
