Street Party Protest At Council Sham

29th May 2002

A street party will take place on Thursday 30th May outside Council homes in Grey Lynn which are currently on the market. The party, offering food, music and fun, is coinciding with the last Open Home of the first batch of 138 residential units primed for sale by the City Council.

Local musicians and community leaders will take part and give support to the growing opposition to the sales of Council homes.

Offers for the first 9 units in Freemans Bay are being accepted today, with tenders for the 4 Grey Lynn properties open until 11 June. "This demonstrates how the Council's attempt at public consultation through submissions to the Council's draft annual plan is a complete sham," says Sigrid Shayer, spokesperson for CHAG. "The Auckland Citizens and Ratepayers Now dominated Council is determined to ruthlessly push through its own agenda despite their lack of mandate from the wider population."
