Transfund funds two new bus services
Transfund funds two new bus services for Manawatu and
Horowhenua
Two new bus services for Manawatu and Horowhenua are likely with approval of funding by Transfund New Zealand.
Transfund has agreed to fund a bus service for the town of Levin, beginning early February, and a Saturday night bus service between Palmerston North and Fielding, beginning early March.
Transfund Acting Planning and Evaluation Manager, Bob Alkema said the two new services would meet a real need for people using public transport in the Manawatu and Horowhenu areas.
_Levin currently has no public transport, which makes it incredibly difficult for people without access to a car to get around the town, and the Palmerston North-Fielding bus service only runs weekdays.
_These new services will make it that much easier for people to travel within Manawatu and Horowhenua,_ he said.
Each service has been funded for a 12-month trial period. The Levin service would provide a service on four routes through Levin during the week and the Palmerston North-Fielding service would do three return trips, at 7 pm, 8 pm and 11.30 pm, every Saturday.
The funding of these
services was in response to applications from horizons.mw.
The Palmerston North-Fielding service was funded as a trial
of a commercial service and the Levin bus service was funded
as part of Transfund
