WINGATE DEVELOPMENT UNDERWAY
Hutt City Council, following a request from local businesses, has just installed three new signs to more clearly direct traffic to the Wingate industrial area.
The signs form part of the Wingate Development Plan developed in a partnership between Council and businesses in Wingate. The Plan uses a similar approach to the highly successful development partnership between Council and businesses in the Seaview Gracefield area.
"Wingate businesses approached Council following the highly successful 'Partnership & Transformation seminar Council organised last year and asked for directional signage and some landscaping work to be done to improve the look of the area and, more importantly, help people find Wingate from SH2," said City Development Manager Gary Craig.
The new signs are the first step in an initiative to develop the Wingate industrial area, which forms part of the wider Economic Development Strategy committed to by Council. The Wingate initiative will contribute to the goal of retention and growth of businesses in Hutt City.
"Wingate businesses reported that some of their customers were having a difficult time finding them and asked whether we could improve signage directing people to the area," said Gary Craig.
"There are some truly innovative companies based at Wingate and Council, as part of its Economic Development Strategy is committed to making our industrial areas attractive for businesses, workers and their customers."
Three signs have been installed at:
· Fairway Dr on approach to the traffic signals at High St,
· High St just north of Percy Cameron St
· Alteration to the sign in Upper Hutt on Silverstream Road before the roundabout at Eastern Hutt Rd.
The cost of the signs, including installation, was $2,800 plus GST.
