Long Bay works to be re-tendered
North Shore City Council is to work with Long Bay College to improve bus access and bus parking outside the school, and car parking inside.
Ashley Ave outside the college is to be upgraded and an additional bus bay provided, roads and footpaths within the college realigned, and car parking improved. Together these measures will greatly improve accessibility and safety for students and visitors, says the council's works and environment committee chairperson, Joel Cayford.
But first tenders have to be called again, as the first round of advertising in December failed to produce any tender close to the estimated cost of the work.
Tenders received were almost twice the estimated cost. At this week's works and environment committee meeting, councillors were advised that due to the huge amount of construction work happening across the city, contractors may be adding costly premiums to their prices.
Councillor Cayford says it is important to
provide safe and quick access to the school and to improve
traffic flows along Ashley Ave. "The upgrading should bring
significant improvements, however, we must get value for
money," he
says.
