Rodney District Council CEO Appointed

John Law, the Mayor of Rodney District, has announced the appointment of Vijaya Vaidyanath as Chief Executive Officer of Rodney District Council. “I congratulate Vijaya on her success. The CEO selection process that the Councillors and I have run was a rigorous one, with more than 40 applicants. The shortlist was made up of people of very high calibre competing for this sought-after role. Rodney communities demand the very best of their Council and the quality of the people who came forward ensured we’ve been able to deliver.”

“After the interview process each Councillor was asked their personal choice. Instantly, there was overwhelming support for Vijaya’s appointment,” Mr Law said.

Ms Vaidyanath has been with the Council for two years as Group Manager – Finance, Economy and Democracy Services. She is an MBA post graduate from the Joseph M. Katz School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, USA. Ms Vaidyanath specialised in Corporate Planning and Strategy, and International Management. She has proven expertise in international finance, management and governance. Ms Vaidyanath has also had leadership experience in both national and New Zealand local government bodies. In addition to this she has led international organisations with more than 200 staff and done so in several different countries. Mr Law said Ms Vaidyanath will officially take over the role on March 1st 2003.

“The Council looks forward to working closely with Vijaya and I’m sure staff and our communities will show her every support as she rises to the challenges of her new role. Personally, I am absolutely delighted for myself, councillors and staff,” Mr Law said.
