New council building adds to Glenfield
facilities
North Shore City Council has announced a further addition to Glenfield's community facilities.
The former Skatelands building at 30 Downing St, Glenfield, adjacent to the council's existing Glenfield Leisure Centre, has been bought by the council for $1.4m. Consultation with the community and a study of how the building should be managed and used is to be undertaken.
The building provides just under 2000 sq metres of space on the ground floor, and 108 sq metres of offices on the first floor. Most of the space is currently used by a children's play franchise.
The council's community services and parks committee chairperson Margaret Miles, says the building will make a fine addition to the area's facilities, as it is ideally located near the Glenfield Mall and on a good bus route.
She says the building could be used to provide a very wide range of community services and activities - but she says she would not like to pre-empt those choices until a complete options study has been undertaken.
