IA Offers Auckland City $2.2 Million For Longest Cycleway

Statement made by John Robertson, Chairman, Infrastructure Auckland

Infrastructure Auckland today announced it is offering a grant of $2.2 million to Auckland City Council for construction of Auckland’s longest cycleway.

The grant will go towards development of three connected cycleways, to be known as the South Western Cycleway.

IA’s grant of $2.2 million covers 70% of the total project cost.

The cycleway will cover a total distance of 19.9km and will run from Southdown past Mangere Bridge, through Onehunga and along State Highway 20 to Richardson Road, Mt Albert.

IA is pleased to be able to contribute to a project that improves cycle access to the many schools and workplaces in the area and to recreational and community activities.

Construction of the cycleway is expected to begin in 2004, concluding in 2006.
