Funding for Auckland region coastal projects

Funding for Auckland region coastal projects announced

The Auckland Regional Council today announced $370,000 of coastal projects funded from a pool of funds from seabed licence charges.

“The ARC has committed to use the seabed funds for the sustainable management of the coastal marine area. The projects range from funding for sewage pump-out facilities to removal of unsightly unauthorised structures in the coastal marine area, to public safety, access and education about the coast,” said Coastal Funding Sub-committee chairman, Brian Smith.

“We’re aiming for a wide range of projects across the region, to benefit coastal users and help maintain a healthy coastal environment,” said Cr Smith.

This is the second of three large allocations of funds from accumulated Half Moon Bay marina fees, paid to the ARC under seabed licencing regulations. Last November, a first round of $300,000 was allocated to a similar range of coastal projects for the current financial year.
