Profile of the Architect – Greg Boyden
“I was in London 1987 to 1992. When I
came back, I kept hearing that Wellington had everything.
There was a real sense of civic pride. I went down there to
have a look. When I saw what had happened I realised that
with the library, the refurbishment of the Town Hall, the
square, the cafes and so on the whole thing came together.
People cared about the city.
“Now, in Auckland, we’ve had the Town Hall, the Civic, the Viaduct Harbour, Princes Wharf. It’s happening here. With Britomart, there’s a big step forward. A hub, a connection, and heart to the city. It will provide a focus that people will care about. A city that’s exciting!”
