Meeting with ARC - Great Gathering at Orewa - Evidence for possible legal action
We are seeking a meeting tomorrow Monday 4th August at 4pm with any ARC councillors or officials who are available to get some action on the list below.
1. Deferment of 'Due Date' for payment from 6th August to 15th September. 2. Agreement to 'open up' methods of payment. 3. To obtain agreement that no penalties be added for non-payment for an agreed period. 4. To obtain ARC's reasons and explanations why rates cannot be reset this year. 5. To put our case and reasons for resetting the rates this year through our "7 Steps to Resolution"
Gwen Bull has said the ARC wants to talk with ratepayers.
We are now calling on the ARC to do just that NOW. ARC councillor Mike Lee has offered to arrange the meeting.
Saturday's meeting at Orewa, attended by about 500 people, passed a resolution calling on the ARC to reset the rate. This follows similar resolution from public meetings in Auckland and Milford each attended by more than 200 people. At the Orewa meeting, rebellion spokesman David Thornton produced an anticipated newspaper headline with the words "ARC Surrenders' and dated 6th August. [pic available on request in JPEG format]
Revelations in the Weekend Herald that ARC councillors were given misleading information on the likely impact on residential ratepayers could be used in any legal challenge under section 120 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002.
