Triangle Television is launching a television first - the first and only daily news brief programme that focuses on Auckland only news.
Triangle Television News will screen at 6.55pm each weekday featuring news and weather that is specific to the Auckland region. On Saturdays and Sundays it will highlight 'what's on' in Auckland.
The programme - which will consist of news headlines and is fronted by a news announcer - will go to air for the first time on Monday, November 3 broadcasting to a potential audience of 1.02 million viewers.
Triangle Television News will be filmed at Triangle's new studio located at the station's Grey Lynn offices and will make use of the station's new autocue.
Triangle Television Chief Executive Officer Jim Blackman says he is delighted that the station has matured to the stage where it can provide Aucklanders with their own news headlines.
"Five years ago when we started broadcasting, we could only dream about offering Auckland a news programme let alone one that would be screened in our own studio.
"Today, we are proud to be able to do this. As Auckland's only regional, non-commercial television station, it's a logical move for us to keep Aucklanders in touch with the latest events and happenings in their region. It's a start and we hope to expand the service as time progresses"
Triangle Television operates as a public broadcaster throughout wider Auckland and most of the North Shore and has a potential audience of more than a million people.
The station screens a mix of regional-access television with international news and information programmes. From Monday November 3, the station will also screen a daily news briefs programme featuring Auckland-specific news items.
Triangle Television is non-profit making and operates with no funding from NZ on Air. The station broadcasts 24 hours daily from UHF channel 41.
