Mayor opens garden of remembrance

NEWS RELEASE

from Hutt City Council

30 January 2004

MAYOR OPENS GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE

Wainuiomata's new ash interment facility known as the Garden of Remembrance located at the end of Hine Road was opened by Mayor Terris today.

"Its wonderful to have a beautiful serene garden that can be a final resting place for people who have given so much to Wainuiomata", said Mayor Terris.

The Garden of Remembrance is an ongoing development project, which will be extended in line with demand.

The first stage of the garden can accommodate 150 plots. Each plot can cater for two ash interments. No ash scattering will be permitted within the Garden of Remembrance, much the same as rules at Taita Cemetery and the Council public gardens.

The Taita Cemetery Sexton will carry out the operational side of the Garden of Remembrance. Interments may be booked through a Funeral Director or by contacting the Taita Cemetery Sexton directly on 567-4859.
