Press conference with Sir Geoffrey Palmer

Noon, Wednesday 10 March 2004

(NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH TUESDAY’S
EASTERN TRANSPORT CORRIDOR ANNOUNCEMENT)

Auckland City Mayor, Hon John Banks, will host a joint media conference with constitutional law expert and former Prime Minister, Sir Geoffrey Palmer.

Sir Geoffrey will publicly release his legal opinion on whether the people of Auckland could have Westhaven Marina transferred back to them at no cost.

Council is participating in the tender process for Westhaven and Hobson West Marinas but there has been much public discussion over ownership issues. Wednesday’s announcement will give definitive answers.

Councillor Scott Milne, chair of the council’s Waterfront Working Party, will also announce Auckland City’s plans on how it intends to move waterfront development issues forward given Sir Geoffrey’s opinion.

The media conference will be held at the Auckland City Mayor’s Office, Level One, Auckland Town Hall, 305 Queen Street, at noon, Wednesday 10 March 2004.
