Woman Power Behind The Scenes Of Show Homes Opening
Preparing three show homes to open simultaneously at the Milford by the sea subdivision in Papamoa is a challenge for two key women involved in getting the details just right.
Interior designer, Helen Fritchley, and Generation Developments marketing manager, Vicky Mills, have worked hard for months to ensure everything is just right for this weekend's opening.
While Mills has been involved with choosing street names, park benches and street lights, Fritchley has concentrated on colour themes and interior style. For Fritchley, making each of the three show homes distinctive to reflect their differing layouts compounded the challenge.
"It's been huge," she says. "It took a lot of thinking time, lots of planning. You can't imagine what it's like having 10 bedrooms with 12 beds to dress, from linen and spreads and furniture right down to the accessories that sit on the shelves."
Fritchley says it's important that the homes reflect the buyer's own personal taste.
"I developed six separate themes for paint, tiles, floor coverings, cabinetry and benchtops, most of which are interchangeable," she says. "After all, that's one of the main reasons people want to start from scratch with a new home rather than inherit someone else's tastes."
Generations Development director Graeme Hockly says sales have been steady since the subdivision went on sale last November even without show homes, so the company is gearing up for a big weekend.
Hockly believes land shortage in Papamoa is driving sales.
"Papamoa is a very popular place to live, it has lifestyle, recreation, location, climate. Everything most people are after," he says.
