Total of $83,000 raised at NZ’s Biggest Book Sale

A total of $83,000 was raised at New Zealand’s biggest second-hand book sale in Dunedin at the weekend.

Proceeds from 24th annual Regent Theatre 24-hour book sale will go to the upkeep of the 139-
year-old building.

``What’s more we gave all the left over books, records, tapes and CDs to charities such as the Roxburgh Health Camp, Habitat for Humanity and the Otago Hospice.

Thousands of people from all over the country left the theatre book sale with bargains from among the sea of 350,000 books.

Nearly all the books sold for just 50 cents as they have for the last 24 years of the annual sale, which has raised over $1million for the great old theatre.

The biggest second hand book sale in New Zealand has become an annual pilgrimage for book-lovers all over New Zealand.

Organisers expect the biggest ever sale for their 25th anniversary next year.
