Big Scary Spider Day at Auckland Museum!
Arachnophobics are warned to steer well clear of the Auckland Museum on Saturday 19 June as we celebrate our eight-legged friends with a day of creepy crawly activities and adventures.
The bravest visitors can take part in big scary spider handling sessions with our live animal curator, Brian Lawton and spider identification with our entomology curator, John Early and Landcare research specialist, Grace Hall (please bring spiders in a sealed jar).
But if that all sounds a bit scary you can sit back and enjoy some spider stories with Soulfood Storytellers. Or take part in a bug writing workshop with Simon Pollard, author of ‘I am a spider’ and ‘I am an insect’. Bring your copy of Simon’s book along and he will sign it for you.
Jonathan Baxter will be visiting the Museum with his giant origami spider, and you can learn how to make your own mini-version.
Keep your eyes open for our giant roving spider as he’ll be nipping at your toes as you explore the Museum!
Other highlights include a fun spider trail through the Museum, website activities and much more!
Admission is by usual donation, children are free.
