Open Letter To Quax From His Chair
Open Letter To Quax From His Chair
From: Hamish Stevens
To: Mr Dick Quax
Dear Dick
Congratulations on your decision to run for the Manukau City mayoralty.
Peoples Choice believes you offer the best chance for Manukau City voters to bring about a change of mayor after 21 years. The other councillor who has offered himself is simply from the same high rates, high spending mould as Sir Barry.
It's time to clean up Manukau City in every way. As you know, we are dedicated to offering the voters in October a new council made up of people who are committed to prudent economic management, transparency in all financial affairs, a graffiti free city and a new reputation as the city toughest on crime.
A mayor with most of the current councillors re-elected will not achieve these necessary and worthy objectives. After discussion with the Peoples Choice Executive I am asking you to consider becoming the Peoples Choice mayoral candidate.
Our organisation believes that a mayor that has a team of like-minded people behind him will have a greater chance of bringing about real and effective change in our city.
As you set out in your policy statement, we are also opposed to the way that the Council has funded the Pacific Events Centre after Sir Barry Curtis said it wouldn’t cost one cent of ratepayers' money.
We are also opposed to the current council’s intention to funnel borrowed money into a property development venture in the new Flatbush town centre. We do not want the mill-stone of excessive debt hanging around the necks of our children.
We also believe that the Mayor hasn’t done enough to provide more resources from central government to make the city safer. After all, we have four government MPs, including the Minister of Police, representing Manukau City in Parliament.
I urge you to think very seriously about standing as the Peoples Choice mayoral candidate so that together we can offer the people of our city a chance for real change.
No other mayoralty candidate can offer as good a team as Peoples Choice.
Yours sincerely
Hamish Stevens Chairman,
Peoples Choice
