CMJ traffic bulletin: Friday 23 July until Friday 30 July

Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work as part of the Central Motorway Junction upgrade project scheduled over the next week.

CMJ Stage 1
Weekend closures
Friday 23 July to Monday 26 July – CLOSED - all weekend, during the day and overnight, from 8pm on Friday through until 6am on Monday:
- Port on-ramp (SH16 westbound)
- Wellesley St on-ramp (SH16 westbound)
- Port off-ramp (SH16 portbound)
- Wellesley St off-ramp (SH16 citybound)

Detour: for westbound traffic – diverted to Newton Rd on-ramp; citybound traffic normally using the Port or Wellesley St off-ramps - diverted to Nelson St off-ramp.

Contingency closures
Friday 30 July to Monday 2 August – CLOSED - all weekend, during the day and overnight, from 8pm on Friday through until 6am on Monday:
- Port on-ramp (SH16 westbound)
- Wellesley St on-ramp (SH16 westbound)
- Port off-ramp (SH16 portbound)
- Wellesley St off-ramp (SH16 citybound)

NB: The contingency closures will take place in the event that wet weather or unforeseen circumstances delay the closures outlined for the weekend commencing Friday 23 July.

Saturday 24 July – CLOSED – during the day from 6am until 8pm:
- Port off-ramp (SH1 northbound)
- Wellesley St off-ramp (SH1 northbound)

Sunday 25 July – CLOSED – during the day and overnight from 6am until 6am the following morning:
- Khyber Pass Off-ramp (SH1 northbound)

Sunday 25 July – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm until 6am the following morning:
- Symonds St on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound)
- Port off-ramp (SH1 northbound)
- Wellesley St off-ramp (SH1 northbound)
- Northwestern to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)

Monday 26 July – CLOSED – overnight from 8pm until 6am the following morning:

Local road closures:
Sunday 25 July – CLOSED – during the day from 8am to 8pm:
- Khyber Pass Rd near the motorway ramps

Sunday 25 July to Thursday 29 July - CLOSED - overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning:
- Either Boston Rd or Khyber Pass Rd near the motorway ramps

Motorway closure:
Sunday 25 July – CLOSED – during the day and night from 7am to 6am the following morning:
- Left-hand northbound lane between Gillies Ave on-ramp and Symonds St off-ramp

Note that Gillies Ave on-ramp traffic must merge with traffic in the second lane.

Motorists are advised that there could be delays.

Ongoing motorway lane closures:
There will be ongoing north and southbound lane closures at night on the Southern Motorway between the Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and the Symonds Street overbridge from Sunday through to Thursday nights until 2005.

Please choose alternative routes during these closures. Motorists are advised that there could be delays.

The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps and is scheduled for completion in 2005.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Wellington St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St.
