'Rates Rebellion' confirms its candidate

12 August 2004

'Rates Rebellion-FRESH START' confirms its candidate and endorses an independent for ARC North Shore seats in October elections.

The 'Rates Rebellion - FRESH START' team has confirmed that its candidate for a North Shore seat on the Auckland Regional Council at the October elections will be its spokesman David Thornton.

As part of the team's already announced strategy of working with other candidates where appropriate, 'Rates Rebellion-FRESH START' says it will endorse current city councillor Wyn Hoadley who, together with David Thornton, will give North Shore City residents "the strongest possible representation on the new ARC".

Mr Thornton says, "Rates Rebellion-FRESH START' recognises the considerable experience and abilities of Wyn Hoadley, especially in the fields of the Environmental and Resource Management issues. Equally important to us is Wyn Hoadley's support for our policies in the key areas of rates policy and transport issues - and her dedication to the interests of North Shore residents.

"This will be a challenging election with some strong candidates right across the Region, and it makes sense for us to work with already announced Independent candidates who are fully supportive of our key policies.

Wyn Hoadley says "I am delighted, as an Independent candidate, to be endorsed by, and to endorse, the 'RatesRebellion-FRESH START' group which has stood up and strongly advocated for the Auckland region's ratepayers over the past fourteen months. David Thornton has already proved to be a tireless worker for ratepayers in this city and the region and I look forward to working with him to further the interests of North Shore residents on the ARC".

The 'Rates Rebellion-FRESH START' team will field candidates in all four cities in the Region and in Rodney District."
