Citizens & Ratepayers NOW Auckland District Health Board - Elections 2004.

“Health team is uniquely positioned to provide leadership and linkages across Auckland’s health sector”

Improving Aucklanders’ access to health and the quality of Auckland’s health services for patients are the focus of the District Health Board election policy released today by Citizens & Ratepayers Now.

The seven-strong team of candidates for the Health Board is expected to “raise the bar” at Board levelthe understanding and advancingeof quality health delivery.

Releasing the Policy today, Board Ddeputy Cchairman, Margaret Horsburgh said that this is a strong, progressive policy platform complemented by the talented team of candidates.

Citizens & Ratepayers Now candidates include threefive medical doctors, twoa nurses and strong health business and disability sector experience. Dr Horsburgh, Team Leader of the Citizens & Ratepayers Now Health team, described the team as uniquely positioned to provide leadership and linkages across Auckland’s health sector – in the hospitals, primary and public health, the disability sectordisabilities and disadvantage, and to increase the focus on improvinge the general health and well-being of all Aucklanders.

The other core ingredient is getting aour fair share of health dollars for Aucklanders , when so much of the Auckland hospital work is for non-Aucklanders she said.

An Aassociate Pprofessor of NursingHealth at the University of Auckland University, DrMrs Horsburgh said the team will leverage the health linkages with other policy-making bodies, including the Regional Council and City Council.

“We believe there are clear linkages in health just as has been proven by the success in the City Council working with the police for community safety. The Health Board will working with City Council and Regional Council to help achievewards healthier lifestyles for Aucklanders. Citizens & Ratepayers Now successes in these these local body Council elections will provide added effort and city-wide focus in the battle for Aucklanders’ good health.

We must also recognise and value the ADHB’sHealth Board 8000 staff who give so much for the better health of Aucklanders. Their retention is crucial in the battle to improve the health of Aucklanders. They must add tremendous value to the service that patients receive and webe value them fd on that basis.or this contribution and will strive to help them have a great work environment.

The Citizen & Ratepayers Now candidates are

Dr Tony Bierre, medical specialist, lecturer at Auckland University and experienced health manager

Dr Jackie Blue, doctor and breast physicianGP specialised in breast

Dr Chris Chambers, a senior doctor at Starship and Auckland Hospitals

Stephen Goodman, accountant and engineer with experience in the business of large organisations

Dr Adriana Gunder, former research scientist experienced in disability services

Dr Margaret Horsburgh, current Deputy Chair of the Board and Chair of the Disability Support Advisory Committee.

Meagan Jaffe, registered nurse with health management wide nursing experience.
