At a meeting at St Paul's Methodist Church in Remuera tonight (22 September), Hobson C&R Now hosted a meeting of 35 people to listen to the mayoral contenders and meet their council, community board and health board candidates.
"We were to pleased to have Mayor John Banks and former Mayor Christine Fletcher join us. They were warmly received at the meeting and they gave freely of their time to answer questions from the audience," said Chris Diack, Council Candidate for C&R Now.
"We were disappointed that Dick Hubbard was unable to attend due to a previous long-standing engagement. However, he also indicated that he would not have attended anyway because he objects to something written about him on the internet by a Hobson C&R Now community board candidate," said Mr Diack.
"There's only one thing tougher than running for the Mayoralty of Auckland City, and that is actually being Mayor. It is not a job for the thin-skinned or easily upset," said Mr Diack.
"After the two mayoral candidates spoke, a range of questions was asked of the C&R Now candidates from matters such as recycling, law and order, dog exercise areas and urban design," said Mr Diack.
"We think it's important that voters get a chance to put the questions to the candidates and important for the candidates to front up. That's why C&R Now were pleased to have hosted this meeting," said Mr Diack.
