Additional safety fencing for Wairau Creek
North Shore City Council is erecting further safety fencing along Wairau Creek in Glenfield.
Over the next five weeks an additional 500 metres of fencing will be placed on both sides of the concrete-lined channel running alongside Wairau Rd.
A 400-metre stretch of the creek running north from Westlake Girls' High School has already been fenced. Once the $100,000 project is completed, most of the creek between Westlake Girls' and Tristram Ave will be fenced.
The 1.3 metre-high fence is made of galvanized steel wire and is designed to keep people out of the potentially dangerous stormwater channel. This section of the stream, near to a busy road and several schools, has steep concrete sides and few footholds.
Over the past two years the North Shore City Council has installed around 300 metres of safety fence alongside a stormwater channel in McFetridge Park, Glenfield, and 125 metres alongside Wairau Creek in Curry's Lane.
