Korohiwa Update

NEWS RELEASE
from Hutt City Council

20 December 2004

KOROHIWA UPDATE

The subdivision of residential land in Korohiwa Bay, to the south of Eastbourne is progressing well, with around 11 lots being created for sale on land at present occupied by the old bus barns and adjoining flats, said General Manager Asset Services.

"To ensure the quality development of what is a prime area of the Wellington region, a guideline for residential construction and planting of the sections will be provided," said Stuart Duncan.

General guidelines will allow for creativity and individuality on each site while providing an overall feeling of community in the area.

"Council's aim is to try to ensure that any developments are sympathetic to the surrounding area without imposing onerous covenants that restrict peoples rights to enjoy their property."

The sites will be between 489 m2 and 916 m2, providing ample space for high quality housing that can maximise the value of a unique coastal environment. They are expected to be available for development around the middle of 2005.

Korohiwa Bay offers unimpeded views out to Wellington Harbour and the Kaikoura Ranges in the South Island.

The area opposite the site, next to the beach, will be landscaped by Hutt City Council to provide a public area that can be enjoyed by both young and old as well as providing an appealing outlook for residents.

Steve Braunias, in his Listener column of 20th November 2004, wrote of the Eastbourne Bays as 'Beautiful, languid, the last to see the sinking sun', said Stuart Duncan.

"The sections at Korohiwa Bay are some of the last few opportunities left which allow will owners to create their own homes in a stunning coastal environment."
