Electric Boat soon operating at Karori

Electric Boat soon operating at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary

An electric boat will soon be providing Karori Wildlife Sanctuary visitors with a unique experience of the Sanctuary from their lower lake.

“The boat is a welcome addition to our visitor experience. Being electric it is whisper quiet so provides visitors with a peaceful and scenic view of the lower Sanctuary valley from the lake. Visitors can view the best forest area along the western slope, they may see shags roosting in the trees or flying alongside the boat and rare brown teal at the wetland at the top of the lake”, says the Sanctuary’s Chief Executive Nancy McIntosh-Ward.

Karori Wildlife Sanctuary gratefully acknowledges New Zealand Community Trust for providing a generous grant for the boat and jetties. The 15 seater electric boat is the only one of its kind south of the Coromandel Peninsula and was originally used at the last America’s Cup in Auckland to ferry passengers.

The boat will operate as part of the scheduled Sanctuary Escape day tours and will also operate during peak visitor periods in the weekends and on public holidays. The boat is also available for private hireage.
