Outstanding sale at Wellington’s Ferner Galleries
The works of some of New Zealand’s finest 20th century artists go on sale at the Ferner Galleries in Wellington on February 14. The last one was 10 years ago before they moved from Glenmore Street in Northland to t the central city.
From 19th century watercolours to contemporary works – the sale offers all art collectors a choice, Ferner Galleries’ managing director Helene Phillips said today.
Artworks by some of New Zealand’s most popular artists will be included in the sale such as Dame Janet Paul, Peter Peryer, Ted Bullmore, Toss Woollaston, Jeffrey Harris, G Grahame Sydney, Emily Karaka and Allen Maddox. ``Of particular interest will be artists with a historical connection to the Wellington art community: JC Richmond, Nugent Welch, Mervyn Taylor and Stewart Maclennan.
``Also Helen Crabb, who was known professionally as Barc, an anagram of her name, was one of the most colourful characters in the mid-20th century Wellington art scene, and two charming drawings are offered in the sale.’’
There are opportunities to purchase works at less than 50 percent of their regular retail p rice – a chance to buy the artist who was previously above some investors’ budget. A total of 250 paintings are on sale.
