Coastal Highway Group Narrow Minded And Selfish
Coastal Highway Group Narrow Minded And Selfish
"The Coastal Highway Group must be one of the most narrow minded selfish groups ever to participate in a public debate in our region" according to Porirua City Councillor Robert Shaw.
Cr Shaw was reacting to the Groups media release that advocated for a 4 lane coastal highway between Wellington and Kapiti.
"They are people who live in Kapiti and want an easy drive to Wellington regardless of the cost to local communities and the environment."
"Whilst we can support their aspirations for an efficient transport system, when there is a sensible compromise available that should be the selected option. Transmission Gully will give the Coastal Highway Group what they seek, it will also give other benefits, and it will not destroy our coastline."
"The security of access to the north is a major concern for Wellington, as is the enhancement of the coastal villages. You cannot sensibly talk about roads in our region unless you admit there are several objectives to be achieved."
"Gone are the days when you can simply destroy
environmental assets and ignore the quality of life of
citizens. In Wellington we seek to put people first and to
maintain the essential character of our landscape. Porirua
City recently won recognition for its quality of life, and
we intend to maintain that approach", Cr Shaw added.
