ARC councillor to join bus drivers' pickets

ARC councillor to join bus drivers' pickets

Robyn Hughes, RAM councillor on the Auckland Regional Council, will join several bus drivers' picket lines this coming Monday.

"Stagecoach is making much bigger profits in New Zealand than on its home turf in Britain, partly because of the millions in subsidies the company is getting from Auckland Regional Council," said Robyn Hughes.

"I believe it's well past the time for bus drivers to get a decent pay rise, and so I'm going to take a stand with these underpaid workers. And I appeal to others to go to their nearest bus depot early Monday morning and lend their support too," she said.

"Other RAM members will be joining our ARC councillor on the picket line," said RAM organiser Grant Morgan. "RAM stands for grassroots justice, and that certainly includes a living wage for bus drivers who're being stressed to the max by a greedy multinational corporation. It's time to stand up for all the people who work hard for small reward."

Robyn Hughes, Grant Morgan and other RAM supporters will be at:

* Roskill bus depot, 22 Stoddard Rd, Mt Roskill.
* 5.30-6.45am on Monday, 4th April.

THEN GOING TO:

* Wiri bus depot, 10 Norman Spencer Dve, Wiri.
* 7.30-8.45am on the same day.
