Council Report On 4wd Problems In Auckland CBD
: TIME AND MONEY WASTED SAYS COUNCILLOR
A city councillor is mystified as to how Auckland City Council’s Transport & Urban Linkages Committee supported a motion asking for officers to report on problems of parking and congestion of 4WD vehicles in the CBD.
“When I first read the ravings of Cr Richard Simpson on 4WDs in the local papers I laughed and thought it was just a case of a first-term councillor with a bad case of foot in mouth disease.
“However, for council officers to now be wasting their time pursuing Cr Simpson’s anti-4WD campaign is just ridiculous. He is making this council a laughing stock. I am totally opposed to ratepayers’ money being wasted in this manner.”
The motion, passed by the Transport and Urban Linkages Committee at its meeting on 7 March was:
“That the Manager of Traffic and Roading Services report to the May 2005 meeting of the Transport and Urban Linkages Committee on the problems caused by Suburban Utility Vehicles (SUV) in their use of on street parking and congestion in the Central Business District.”
Cr Casey who is not a member of the Traffic and Roading Services Committee says that she will be asking the Chief Executive today to outline procedures at her disposal for having the motion revoked.
