Hurunui District Council Welcomes Waipara Wine Village

The Hurunui District Council is welcoming the news that a multi-million dollar development is to be built at Waipara junction.

Plans for Waipara Wine Village were unveiled this morning.

“This is an exciting and very significant development for the whole Hurunui District. We congratulate the developers on their belief in and vision for Waipara,” says Mayor Garry Jackson, Hurunui District Council.

Mayor Jackson is certain Waipara Wine Village will become a new icon and point of growth, in the ongoing development of tourism in the Hurunui District.

“We agree with the developers that the village will be a major stimulus for the tourism and wine industries and specifically strengthen the “Waipara Apex” of the Alpine Pacific Triangle.”

“Waipara Wine Village will have the ongoing commitment of support and effort from the Hurunui District Council, because we know that success for the Waipara Wine Village will be success for the Hurunui,” concluded Mayor Jackson.

BACKGROUND

Waipara Wine Village is a $20 million development to be built on the corner of Mount Cass Road and State Highway One.

The village will encompass international hotel and villa accommodation, a restaurant and wine bar, boutique ale house, wine tasting facility, food and wine school, function centre and conference facility, as well as a retail area, the new Waipara information service, a wine cellar and a banquet hall.

Construction is due to start in May and the village is expected to be completed by October 2006.
