Auckland Harbour Bridge resealing work postponed
Transit New Zealand advises that resurfacing work on the Auckland Harbour Bridge, scheduled for May-June, has been postponed until October 2005.
The work is part of ongoing resealing essential to the upkeep of the Harbour Bridge. A new asphaltic surface is to be applied to the centre four lanes, which will result in fewer delays due to its lower maintenance requirements.
However, due to lower winter temperatures, the complexity of the work, and other road user disruption resulting from upgrading work in the Central Motorway Junction and the construction of a new bus priority lane on the Fanshawe Street off-ramp, the work has been postponed until October.
“Provided, as anticipated, that weather conditions are favourable in October, we will be able to begin resealing immediately as all the comprehensive pre-trial work necessary for a project of this nature has already been completed,” says Transit regional manager, Richard Hancy.
Transit will be reminding drivers of the closures closer to the time. There will also be a free call number kept updated (0800 RESEAL).
