SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Continues Support for
Winter Festival 2005
SKYCITY Queenstown Casino is proud to be a key sponsor and provider of daily live entertainment throughout the 31st annual Lindauer Queenstown Winter Festival (01 – 10 July 2005).
For the second consecutive year, the entertainment and gaming complex is sponsoring two of the programme’s highlight events, the SKYCITY Jazz Night and the SKYCITY Comedy Night – both events sold out weeks in advance this year and last year. In addition, SKYCITY Queenstown Casino will host a week of free live performances in Wild Thyme Bar and Restaurant.
The SKYCITY Queenstown Jazz Night (Sunday 03 July) promises a sensational evening where jazz enthusiasts will be transported by gondola to Skyline restaurant for a glamorous evening of live music across three stages, supper (optional) and spectacular views of the central town below. The evening will showcase renowned performers including Greg Johnson, Salmonella Dub, dDub and other special guests.
In keeping with SKYCITY Queenstown Casino’s traditional support of the Winter Festival’s comedy element, the complex is once again proud to be hosting the SKYCITY Comedy Night in Wild Thyme Bar and Restaurant on Friday (08 July) from 8pm. The SKYCITY Comedy Night will feature stand-up performances from leading New Zealand comedy icons, including Ewen Gilmour, Brendan Lovegrove, Jeremy Corbett and Sam Wills.
SKYCITY Queenstown Casino also features regular live entertainment in the bar every night throughout the Queenstown Winter Festival – including the Masters Blasters, Marty Astone Blues Band, Noel Coutts, Brett Strachan and Neil Chilton.
General Manager, Paul Wilson, says that SKYCITY Queenstown Casino is delighted to be once again supporting the Queenstown Winter Festival.
“In addition to live entertainment every night and two key Winter Festival sponsorships, this year we can reveal a new-look entrance, bar and lounge area featuring comfortable booth-style seating around the fireplace to enhance the total entertainment experience,” says Mr Wilson.
The redevelopment which was completed late last month, (June 2005), extends the existing bar area onto the gaming floor, provides a larger service area and includes a new giant plasma TV screen – in addition to the existing big screen - timely to catch the Lions versus All Blacks rugby test matches (Saturday 2 July and Saturday 09 July 2005) plus any other major upcoming sports or televised events.
Mr Wilson says that the recent renovation to the property is the first major physical development since SKYCITY Queenstown Casino opened in December 2000.
“The significant investment reinforces SKYCITY’s commitment to the region and comes at an exciting time for us as we gear up for the busy Winter Festival and ski season,” he says.
