Meeting To Discuss Shut-Down Of "Pak 'N Save"

22 July 2005

Public Meeting Planned To Discuss Shut-Down Of "Pak 'N Save" Wairau Rd Buliding Project

In response to public concerns raised in the community about the stopped work on the new Pak'n Save supermarket, in Wairau Road, the Glenfield Ratepayers Association is arranging a public meeting for 3pm on Monday 8th August in the Glenfield War Memorial Hall, Hall Road, Glenfield.

The meeting will aim to give residents the facts leading up to a High Court order that work on the building site must stop and the resource consent for the project was held to be invalid.

Discussions on the exact form of the meeting are still to be finalised - but we hope that it will be possible for representatives of all parties involved to attend.

Final details will be announced before the end of the month.

Association chairman David Thornton said today "There is considerable support in the community for the new supermarket and residents are mystified, and in some cases angry, and feel they are entitled to know the full facts and to express their opinions to the parties involved in the dispute".

The High Court action was taken by Progressive Enterprises [which operates the Woolworths, Foodtown and Countdown supermarkets] together with the Northcote Mainstreet organisation which represents shops at the Northcote Shopping centre.
