Construction amber light for Wairau PAK'nSAVE

Construction amber light for Wairau PAK'nSAVE building

July 28, 2005

In a recent court ruling permission has been given for the Wairau Rd PAK'nSAVE building to be completed to a standard that makes it weathertight and safe.

PAK'nSAVE and North Shore City Council successfully argued that the uncompleted site posed a significant threat to public safety and that further critical construction and engineering work was required.

Permission to continue construction work was sought after resource consent for the supermarket building was overturned in a High Court ruling last month and the National Trading Company of New Zealand, owner of PAK'nSAVE, was left with no consent to complete and operate the supermarket. Both North Shore City Council and the National Trading Company of New Zealand have lodged an appeal against this decision.

PAK'nSAVE has been given until the middle of August to finish work on the building and site area. A further extension was granted until the end of September for work to be finished on the Porana Rd bridge, which forms part of the site access.
