Call for public views on revised bylaws
North Shore City Council is calling for public comment on two revised bylaws governing trading in public places and the control of temporary signs.
The bylaw review is required by the Local Government Act of 2002.
The city's community boards have already given their feedback on the new bylaws.
The public now has a month to have its say on the draft documents, submissions closing on October 28, 2005. For more information or a submission form, residents should call the council's Actionline on 486 8600, or visit its website at www.northshorecity.govt.nz
North Shore City environmental health team leader, Ian Parker, says the purpose of the bylaws is to allow legitimate and reasonable trading activities, while ensuring the maintenance of proper standards of hygiene, convenience, access, safety and appearance.
The trading in public places bylaw includes rules relating to mobile shops, general street trading, outdoor cafés, the sale of food from commercial stalls, flea markets and by hawking, and the hiring of waterborne craft from public areas.
The control of temporary signs bylaw includes rules relating to footpath signs, real estate signs, election signs and signs advertising community events. There are also general requirements for the construction and maintenance of temporary signs.
