Dog walk a success for hospice

About three hundred dogs and their owners took part in the Stanmore Bay Beach walk on Saturday raising $2,000 for the Hibiscus Coast Hospice Building fund.

Event organiser Jill Parsons from the Rodney Dog Friends Group says she was absolutely thrilled with the turn out and the contributions that everyone made to such a worthy cause.

“It was wonderful to see so many people, and their dogs enjoying the walk. I would like to thank the community for their support, it was an outstanding success and we are now considering it as an annual event,” she says.

Rodney District Council’s Acting Communications Manager, Mike Isle, says there was a fantastic feeling of community spirit on the day.

“It certainly was an event that the council feels extremely proud to have supported.”

First prize in the raffle, a $150 child’s bicycle supplied by Full Cycles, went to Mrs Edgar of Red Beach.

People who missed the beach walk can still make donations to the Hibiscus Coast Hospice Building fund by sending them to PO Box 631, Whangaparaoa.
