Funding approved for Henderson Transport Interchange
The Land Transport New Zealand Board has approved funding for the construction of Waitakere City Council’s Henderson Transport Interchange project.
The project involves upgrading the current Henderson rail station to a full transport interchange between rail, bus, walking, cycling and private car drop-off. The Land Transport NZ Board approved $4.6 million in funding towards the $12.2 million project at its last meeting.
The decision follows the Board’s approval in September of $34.8 million in funding towards duplication of the Western Rail Line from New Lynn to Henderson. When completed in the first quarter of 2007 the duplication will allow four trains an hour to run all the way from Britomart to Henderson at peak times.
Land Transport NZ Northern Partnership Manager Peter Kippenberger said the upgrade of the Henderson rail station was aimed at increasing patronage of the Auckland rail system by providing improved interchange facilities for rail passengers
