Dates Announced for 2007 Festival of Colour

The next Festival of Colour will run from 24 -29 April 2007 it was announced at the weekend. The dates were announced at a special function to thank sponsors and patrons of the inaugural festival in Lake Wanaka earlier this year.

In speeches from festival director, Philip Tremewan and festival chair, John Beattie, the audience of over 200 people also learned of the festival’s proposal, supported by the Wanaka Community Board, to restore the flagstone area of Ruby Island’s natural amphitheatre.

The festival will spread its reach further a field in 2007 with a touring programme announced that will take in Lake Hawea, Luggate, Tarras, Cromwell, Bannockburn and Arrowtown.

In a repeat of its successful initiative for the first festival, John Beattie invited the audience to donate funds to support the 2007 festival and become a patron, a move that secured over $50,000 before the end of the night. Local business, Infinity Investment Group, confirmed they would again sponsor the Infinity Pacific Crystal Palace while Lake Wanaka Tourism pledged their support by repeating their silver sponsorship of the event.

“The support from the local community is once again overwhelming,” said Mr Beattie. “There is an obvious pride in ownership of the event, and it is this support that has significantly helped make the festival the flagship arts event it is today. We believe it will become like Warbirds over Wanaka – a signature event for the region that generates increasing economic and cultural benefits for the wider community.”
