Stuffed animals stolen

Auckland Regional Council is appealing for the return of four large and distinctive stuffed animal displays.

The stuffed animals were stolen from an ARC car on Saturday night in Pt Chevalier.

The displays feature a ferret eating a quail, a stoat with a bird’s nest, a possum and four rats. All are in distinctive curved perspex cases and at least 700mm by 700mm in size. They are used by the ARC Biosecurity team to educate people about animal pests.

ARC Biosecurity Manager Jack Craw says the stuffed animals are of great value to the ARC in its work educating the public, but of no commercial value.

“These are very distinctive and unique displays so it is likely someone has seen them.

“It’s not often your friend or neighbour brings home a stuffed ferret or possum to put on show in their lounge.

“The ARC has already alerted the police and Trade Me about the theft, so they will be difficult to sell.”

Mr Craw says there will be an amnesty of a week allowing the stolen stuffed animals to be returned without question.

“We want to hear from anyone who has seen the displays or knows anything about the theft.”
